North Atlantic Tracks

Shanwick Oceanic Control Area

Introduction

Welcome to the Shanwick Oceanic Area Control Centre for the North Atlantic.

Unlike continental navigation, we don't have fixed airways as there are no navigation aids in mid atlantic. Instead we operate the North Atlantic Track System, which is changed on a daily basis in line with the Real World NAT Tracks, to take advantage of the upper winds. With the advent of more online flying, fixed rate internet access, long haul online flying is a growing area of our hobby. Due to the great distances involved, and time scale, speed acceleration is permitted over the Atlantic (subject to ATC Clearance), so a London to New York Flight can be managed in under 3 hours. Why not join the growing band of controllers operating one of the five Atlantic control centres.

Training Director and Oceanic Operations Manager
